I purchased some acrylic sheets to make into dividers. I have cut them to size so they fix proper in the tank. How do I drill holes in them? All of my drills do not seem to be able to get through? What type of drill bit should I use for this task? I have tired many.

I used the wood drill for my. It better not to drill the hole for the divider just cut a couple line on to & bottom it look much nicer. To do that I've the wet saw much easier.

I would recommend uniform holes and slits at the top and bottom of the sheet. You want to have your water properly circulating in the tank. Having slits only isnt enough, you need holes in the midsection of the acrylic sheet.

Thanks, What kind of saw did you use?

I am going to have to "borrow" it from work.

Hey, was curious about making dividers myself, was looking into the eggcrate , which I have noticed a lot of people using, just wondering where you would get the suction cup bracket contraption that attaches to the eggcrate (or even acrylic if I used it) to keep it in place in the aquarium?

Bro, If that's some sort of a plexi glass, don't drill it. It will break. What I did is I heat up a nail the size of the hole you want and press it through the glass. If you have a blue torch, the job will even be faster. Wait for the nail to turn red and start poking through your glass. You can make like around five holes at a time. Hope this helps.

I got my egg crates from Lowes hardware.. it's also called light difuser.

I got some suction cups from Petco, they are suction cups for heaters..(all plastic)
I use small 'zip ties' to tighten the suction cup to the egg crates..

I currently have egg crate, which works great, but i find the acrylic much more attractive, picked a peice of recently and used the heated nail with a torch method, it works perfectly!! also home depot sells the knives to cut it to size for dirt cheap as well, its definetly the way to go and beats drilling (so easy to crack it that way)

good luck!

sounds good! where do you pic that up?

noob you can get the cutting knives at home depot as well, they are cheap and come with instructions on how to cut...you have to use a straight edge and make a few passes with the blade and then snap it off
