here is a photo of my male flowerhorn,he is only about 5inches long and has spawned once.here,he is beside the plastic screen(no glass divider available) i use to separate him from the female.sorry it's not much of a good quality photo.so,is he of good quality or not?i bought him as a reject or among the culled juveniles from a local breeder.but i never expect him to be like this "colorful".i'll take a better angle of him,he keeps hiding at this time, still adapting to their new tank. 21.gif

He is handsome! His color will improve with some tender love and care and plenty of water changes grinning ....

About the KOK I can see a little hump, dont give up hope, try food items like hikari, azoo, New life spectrum and supplements like grand sumo and ching mix. They may not help the KOK but there is a good chance that they may help ( It primarily depends on genetics but food can help )

He has a hard kok so no matter what type of pellets you feed him it will still have a very small nuchial hump... I suggest to buy another one and just feed this one to a turtle or throw it in the canal... :-)

I do not recommend feeding a FH to a turtle or tossing it in a canal, even if he may not be the best, that doesnt mean you just toss it out to die! And I would say to try your level best to get him look better... There are a lot of things that make a flowerhorn good looking other than the KOK and beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

The hobby is not all about which fish is the best, it is also about learning how to care about fish!

nice fish bro, from the looks of him he will not have a big hump on the head just to let you know. But he has great colors and fins, everyone has their own taste in fish.

LMAO, dam Choy and Vssa2003, you two sound just like 1986.com, when he was stil around.

that's ok,not much of a fan of big KOKed flowerhorns anyway.and after all,i bought him as a reject, bought him for only 50pesos or $1 only.haha!i bought him only to gain experience in breeding bigger type cichlids but i never expected that the reject would turn out not too bad or ugly.haha!i'll get a more good one when i gain enough experience.

He has definitely improved a lot. He has potential IMHO and he will improve.

Although KOK's look nice, a colorless FH with a huge KOK is not going to look pretty hence a balance of color and KOK is important. What is important is that you like him and you think he is worth keeping....

you know what, here is how I look at it, what makes a flowerhorn high quality? some characteristics that some joe blow decided HE wanted it to look like, it isnt like a computer or graphics on a game, it is different, in something like a computer quality means it is going to work better, wont break down on you, it is faster etc., see where im going with this? quality in fish is nothing more then an individuals opinion, if he is exactly what you like, then he is quality for you, that is all that matters, people can give there opinions on what quality is, but when it comes right down to it, they are characteristics that the individual likes. people are just manipulated into thinking certain qualities of the flowerhorn are better then others. what makes the large kok a good quality... nothing besides an opinion...

anyways, enough blabbing 21.gif

nice fish, great color, feed him lots of beta carotene and astaxanthin to increase his reds, feed him lots of spirulina to increase pearls.

Good Luck!
