Warning!!!! This is a very dangerous and potent treatment for your fish. It can KILL your fish. PP is a power oxidant and will kill any simple organisms on the fish from fungus, bacteria, flukes, worms, etc... And it will also remove the slime coat completely from the fish. I suggest using the PP dip as the last resort.
Here is how I use PP and I am sure there are other ways to do it as well.
1. Make sure the tank in which the fish is kept in is super dupper clean. Either he is kept in the hospital tank or his permanent home, the water and filtration needs to be clean. I recommend a big 50% water change the night before. Add 1 tablespoon of salt per gallon or anywhere between half to 1 cup of salt per 10 gallon. 2. Use 2 containers that are big enough and deep enough for you to net the fish and dip his entire body in. 3. Siphon out the water from the tank into these 2 containers. 4. For one container add some PP into this dip container and stir. Using a regular small drinking glass, you will need to routinely collect this solution and examming it. You want the solution to be deep blue in color with about 3-4 inch of visibility. That means you can barely see your fingers or anything on the other side of the drinking glass of PP when held up. 5. Having the two containers side by side, you are now ready to for the treatment. 6. Net your fish and dip him into the PP solution. Keep him in the solution for 15 seconds. Then take him out and dip him into the water container and let him rest for 15 seconds. 7. Same procedure but this time dip for 30 seconds and rest for 15 seconds. 8. Same procedure but this time dip for 45 seconds and rest for 15 seconds. 9. Last dip but this time dip for 1 minute and put him directly back into the tank.
Alot of people do a 2 days treatment but I feel 1 treatment is enough. One place you can get PP is from Sears where they sell chemicals for well water and water filtration supplies.
I also like to add. Most people will use the PP treatment on wild fish. And some people will use the PP treatment on newly received fish from an untrusted source. To use this treatment on a dying fish or a fish with prolong ailment is a sure death for the fish. So please be careful and make your best judgement before you attempt this treatment.
