That's all good. I have a friend who breeds PURE Midas as well. His female breeder Midas has a bigger kok then that male breeder you posted. Just wanted to be clear to folks that the Midas you posted ain't no "kokster". |

BUT i think it IS a kokster.... i'm a newbie when it comes to flowerhorns but not a newbie when it comes to pure species..i have been keeping fish ever since i could remember... I have only seen larger koks on a Midas only on youtube... maybe because the lfs here don't usually sell large midas? Not sure but i think this guy has a nice big kok such a small guy... Care to share pics of your friends midas? Thanks Lucky -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

It's a big kok for a mids in my eyes... don't really see them get bigger then that around here. I have seen them on youtube but not in person..but i think they are mixed with something.. not a pure midas.. unless you are buying from a reputable breeder like Jeff Rapps, they are likely to be a cross between A. labiatus (Red Devil) and A citrinellus (Midas), it is damn near impossible to find a pure bred of either spp. i have seen bigger, but i wouldnt call this one small, i dunno what lucky is talking about, just because there is bigger doesnt make this ones tiny... crack maybe? but anyway, this is a slightly above average sized nuchal for a pure Midas at this size, but if it is crossed with a RD, which is likely, it is quite a big nuchal, as Red Devils, though can get a decent nuchal, dont get as big as a Midas' This post has been edited by Gage: Sep 29 2008, 11:12 PM |

YOu may have seen midas with bigger kok but to say this fish has TINY kok is just stupid IMO. It's pretty nice sized IMO also, and why you need to dump on the sis man??? Wowzers! I guess I upset the "clique" here… thanks for all your kind respectful words.
Well, again I was just trying to tell folks that the male Midas breeder ain't no kokster… if y'all think it is then I wish you luck. Christina, since you know so much about pure species... can you share some of your experienced knowledge regarding the Midas cichlid? Especially some of the unique traits of that species. Yes luvtocatchem they are a great fish often overlooked in the flowerhorn community. |

Yes luvtocatchem they are a great fish often overlooked in the flowerhorn community. Wow.. all this from posting a pic of a Midas i think has a big kok???... Frankly i could care less what others think especially when it isn't my fish and most of the time when it is...As long as i like it then who gives a F%$&^ what others think... Like i said, i have been keeping fish since i could remember and the Midas i have seen here (In Toronto) even seeing the ones mixed with Red Devil or even flowerhorn have not had kok this size... As far as me explaining unique traits and experienced knowledge of this type of fish... WHOMP.. never owned one of these..and never stated that i did.. like i said i am sharing my friends Midas and i do believe that he breeds KOKSTERS.. Me saying i am experienced in fish keeping doesn't mean that i have been keeping Midas. I mean all around pure species..not just the Midas as i have not owned one before... Thanks for your inputs and opinion Lucky... but as u can see i am not the only one who thinks he has a nice size kok.. You took it upon yourself to leave a comment like that.. that's fine it's your opinion.. but maybe u need a set of contacts or a perscription changed.. REAL pictures don't lie! U being the "Expert" and older then me have been around longer and experienced more BUT not to state the obvious and disagree with this is dumb.. The picture shows this guys big kok... This is my opinion. Take it how u wish.... Also... there is no "Clique" it's just simply MEMBERS opinions. sorry if I offended you Lucky, but you might have been able to say things without putting someone down is all I meant. You are very knowledgable, but you like to hold that over peoples heads sometimes IMO, and you like to toot your own horn. But if you can honestly say this fish has a tiny kok, you should have no problems. In a scale of Monster Kok/Big KoK/Noticeable KoK/Tiny Kok how can this fish be Tiny maybe. On a Monster Kok/Tiny Kok scale then you would be right but that is extreme IMO. I just thought you where kinda arrogant when you say Well Tina your just a newbie let me tell you how it really is. Just kind of crass IMO bro, it's not like Tina is a raging Bitch to everyone or anything either to warrant a responce like that right?

not every midas automatically has a big head, look though this gallery http://www.midas-cichlid.com/midas_pictures.html granted there is larger but there is also a lot smaller and I would say this is prob larger then normal

It's all just shades of grey and opinions, no need for anyone to get bent out of shape. Are there Midas with bigger heads? You betcha. Are there Midas with smaller heads? Absolutely. No one is the arbitor of who gets the 'kokster' title and who doesn't. Some will see it one way and other will see it another. Its always best when debating on matters of opinion to agree to disagree.
