So your calling yourself a breeder and you don't know how to raise your own fry?

Use the search button, this will answer most of your questions.

Lauro tells me the best thing to use IS baby brine shrimp. you hatch them out yourself and the fish will love it bro. I would get a fry grow out tank @ 100g , in the fish world the more space and feed the faster they grow! You dont need to feed them the bbs after one inch when you can switch to other feeds!

1986 please stop the name calling. It's ok for people to disagree bro. Many have had to listen to you rag on their fish, so don't throw a hissy fit and call names when people are honest and to the point with you also. You can't have it both ways bro. He didn't call any names, and did bring up a legit point IMO. You say you are a breeder in one post, and you ask about growing fry in another. He was just asking why that is if you are a breeder. He could have done it a little nicer, but like I said earlier, you have talked that way to many a member in the past yourself, and thats probly why it was phrased the way that it was. Just stop the name calling ok?? Thanks bro.

mine went nuts for the baby brine shrimp.. we bought the viles of eggs.. it's easy to hatch.. use salt and an air stone and your good

you can also buy the kits that come with the salt as well...

I would get an automatic feeder and start feeding them baby cichlid pellets 4-6 times per day.
If you can get mysis shrimp, use it. It is more nutritious than bloodworms.
But if you have the time to feed BBS, here is how you should do it.
1. Soak the eggs in cool water for half hour.
2. Strain out all water and soak them in 100% bleach until they turn orange. This process is called decapsulation. Which means the shell is nearly gone. You can do this in bulk and safe the eggs for later to hatch.
3. Strain out the eggs from the bleach and rinse in cool water until there is no more smell of bleach. You can add a little vinegar to speed up this process.
4. Then hatch in a standard BBS hatchery.
5. You can save the remainder of the "orange" or decapsulated eggs in high salinity solution and keep them in the fridge for later hatching.

This is what I use to do when raising discus frys. The newly hatch BBS along with the unhatched eggs are very nutritious compared to the traditional way of hatching BBS because it took less engergy for the BS to break their shell during hte hatching process.

Filtration is also a key the better your water the healthier your fish i would say sponge filter although i seen mods to aquaclear with sponges on them which also did a great job i also think no gravel is a best or maybe a little gravel and a biger tanks also helps I also been told that having a powerjet is good moving the water thus forcing the fish to swim more and eat more

BBs has been a standard for fry, daphnia canned or frozen, and even powdered egg yolk. You can even start your own fry food cultures. Sponge filters for fry tanks because of the good filtration & sponge filters are gentle on the fry. Fry need to eat often & between feedings they can feed off the sponge too... java moss is good as well for fry to pick at between feedings. If you want to accelerate growth rate daily waterchanges works great.
