i have a 40 gal with a fluval 204 ive changed the water every other day and it has fresh carbon so whats the deal, i have some drift wood i found at the beach that ive had in there maybe the smell is ubsorbed from that... should i take out the gravel any ideas. to list the fish i have a 6in red dragon, a small chichild, 2 7in plecos, a blue claw lobster, and a Festivum looking fish i think its something else its bout 6in. the tank is a bit cramped but im tradeing the flowerhorn in a fiew weeks but still it shouldnt smell that bad with frequent water changes

it could be the wood, try boiling it. If you don't boil shells when you collect them at the beach they stink so it could be the same with the wood.

^^ 100% agreed, it is your wood for sure, boil water and put in wood for at least 15 mintues to kill all harmfull bacteria. Even boiled it will lower PH (flowerhorn need higher PH) and turn your water yellowish for that good ol' natural look.

ok i have taken everything out except the teracota pot gravel, rocks, wood and it still stinks, i change the carbon every month and i even use extra carbon i dont know what else to do, any ideas?

I think the bacteria in your tank that casue the smell is still there so I would say re do the tank wash everything and dry it out for a day then setup the tank and and see if that work good luck bro

What are you feeding your fish? Hikari, New Life Spectrum, and Tetra Carnivore Sticks in particular will make your tank reek if the fish don't eat it all as soon as you feed them.

eh just chichld pellets and fast color boost, maybe some feeders when im on vacation ive done a water change since with everything out and it wasnt as bad when i got back from vacation but they also wernt fed 3 times a day so ill give it a week and see

25% every other day is too much IMO bro. That adds up to allmost 100% WC each week.

Just remove the things that you had put, and put into rubbish bin, and you must need to change the whole tank water + clean the filter as well....this is the only way

look buddy lay off this isnt even the same tank i have a hand full of tanks and no duck lips in this one, you should really think about what you say before you say because your really starting to bug, but thanks for the concern

This is always a big issue with me cause I cant smell and the wife gets on me so I am always checking with her.

Yo lil homie, why you gotta side bust the big homie? I keep my tanks ultra clean and yet I had a case of duck lip last year. I doubt this is his direct fault.

BTW, I just picked up a 100 gallon 1/2" thick glass tank last night for free!!! Too bad im not gonna use it for fish, im giving it to my GF for her bearded dragons.
