Here is my Golden Thai Zhen Zhu. Got him at 1.5 inches back in January. He is close to 5.5-6" now. Here is a time line of pictures from when I got him in Jan. to now. He has absolutely no red coloring on his body.

Have you tried chingmix + bloodworms?

I feed him bloodworms twice a week along with his chingmix. How often do you suggest the bloodworms be fed to him? I agree with you his head has the potential to be gigantic.

Your fish already a MP to me. With his unique
colors that not many FHs have. And a nice body,
fins and a big head already. Maybe you just need
to feed him with more live food to bring out
the color in him. Then he'll be a super "bad azz"
flowerhorn :)

Sounds like your doing it right already.
Just patience in seeing him develop is all that is needed.
Some people also think pH of 8.0 would help also.
