It's really really hard to determine the sex of a parrot fish IMO... You might just have to wait until one lays eggs then you can be sure it is a female.... i bought a pair at Wal-Mart not too log agoand am almost certain i have a male and a female but again i cannot be 100% sure until one of them lays eggs... so i can be waiting for months or even a year because they are still small around 3" - 31/2"
Sorry sexing Parrots is HARD -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

I agree with Christina. I just bought a few King Kong Parrot from LFS and waited. I got lucky and got a fertile female. Took about 6-8 months for her to finally lay eggs though. What I did was look for what I though was the "tube". It was sticking out a tad and thougt it might be a female which it was.

I had this guys that works at a LFS tell me that if the tube sticking out a bit is pointy then it's a male and if it's a bit rounded it's a female but it's really hard to tell because that is not a proven way of sexing them. the only thing i will go by is waiting for the eggs to drop.. lol and i have a long wait ahead of me... lol -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

what i have noticed when i go out looking for a new female is that when small like 3inchs and smaller they are extremely hard to sex. i have heard many theories on how ppl do sex them.
anything from the ridge back if it sticks way up and the face is extremely beaked looking then it's male. to someone telling me its about the finage... and we all know that owns them, finage has nothing to do with sexing. here is what i do when shopping for a new female. i use the high back ridge technic and the vent. females, i have noticed have what appears to be 2 points (looking at it from the side like), and hooked at the very tip. this is when the female has not become sexually active yet. once the female becomes sexually active this method is no good, because active female's vent looks really different then males, period. also should be easy to tell the difference of their vents. i am not saying this is the right way of sexing them. just sharing my experience and what has worked for me to find the females. -------------------- |
