My new computer coming in.. is going to be a Dell Inspiron 530 w/ the following config..

Core2Quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz, 8MB/L2 Cache, 1066FSB)
3GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
500GB 7200RPM HDD
MSI GeForce 8800GT 512MB OC Edition (Self install)
Vista Home Premium
19" HD Widescreen..

That's about all the major components..

Anyone have a setup like this?

Main question for people is.. who's using Vista? And how do you like it? I'm used to XP Pro, so Vista will be a big change.. I'm not sure if I'll like it..

that is a nice computer rig, i am currently using vista ultimate on my Mac and i hate it.. so many bugs, etc.

will this computer for gaming? if so, I would suggest at least 4 GB of Ram, and the video card.. change it to 8800 GTS or GTX, much better and more powerful video cards.. its too bad that i cant install those cards on my mac pro.. T_T

those stats look great. if the machine is for gaming the cards that anthony listed are very nice.

My one concern is why go with Dell?? and then add all the nice equipment to a motherboard that is cheaper...If dell has upgraded mb's then nvm, but the dells at my work will die in about 1.5 yrs due to their mb being cheap.

Spyder- I also have a macbook bro.. and what is your opinion of the differences between bootcamp and parallel? I am running vista in parallel and its really slow.. takes about 3-5 minutes to boot up! plus I cant play most of the games on parallel because it keeps on saying, can't find proper video card, etc etc..

I just picked up a Macbook Pro too, still just running Tiger though... Its not that bad once you get used to it... If i was going to run windownsyndrome I would definitely stick with XP but use Fusion instead of parallels. Parallels and bootcamp run about the same from what I have seen and Fusion runs a little better than both.. you can find it where I work: www.macconnection.com I have a 'friends and family' line to call for a discount if you guys end up picking something up let me know so I can give you the #

I went with Dell because they're cheap.. and I know a lot of people who have Dells and have had them for awhile.. and I got a 3 - 4 year old laptop with them.. and it's still pretty good.. I just wanted a nice rig that was going to fit my budget.. I probably could have built it for pretty cheap, too.. but I ended up buying from Dell for the processor, and included OS.. then, just upgrading the vid card to the 8800GT was good.. I read a lot of reviews before buying it, and the card being $220 new.. is not bad at all, most the reviews say that if a 8800GTX is a 100% card, then the 8800GT would be 90%.. so, it's almost as good as a GTX but a lot cheaper.. And I don't game too much, I got the card for CS 1.6/Source/COD4...

Yeah, and it was also cheaper to get a dell, because I can swap everything over to a better case and mobo if need be for cheaper.. for about $800 AR and discounts, I think that's what I would have paid for just the CPU, monitor, RAM and HDD already.. so, I can have a running system now, and swap everything over to a better mobo and case later if I want to.. after warranty's exp. =D..

Im using bootcamp with XP and it runs fast havent really messed with vista since of all the bugs try and downgrade to xp and you might see a big difference I have used parrells and it works fine it looks like the problem is vista which is probably slowing down your rig
