I threw them together in a tank, and they went crazy on each other. But since they didn't really damage each other much i went to sleep.

Surprised when the male is still alive with this female. You're lucky pro. But IMO, the male is too young to breed if he's real only 4-5 months old.

Good luck pro.

thankyou everyone for the warm welcome

i like to keep the tank planted so i placed lots of rocks in there so the roots grow out and actually hold them down. never had problems until they started digging to breed lol.

yess i am pretty lucky this two fish get along well. I actually have three females, but the other two was really small. All i did was throw all four of the fish together and notice that those two got along well. Then i left them there. 82*degrees. 1 week later i turned it up to 84* and boom they dug my tank left and right and out came the eggs. lol.

since they seem to stop laying eggs about an hour ago, i notice my male face/stomach is actually putting on some red. I'll post pics later. until then, goodnight everyone.

Three Days After The Eggs Has Been Layed

Well it's been three days, I guess since there not all white means some could be fertilized :) *prays for the best* A couple of white ones on the far right is showing signs of water mold, but since the fishes are fanning them nonstop (of course only halting to eat when i feed them lol, thus me being able to take this photo) I think the eggs would be fine. I left my convicts eggs alone like that too and I never had problems with the eggs. To bad i don't have a better camera.

I never had flowerhorns eggs before so i don't know how long to expect them to be before they hatch. I know my convict's eggs hatch about 3-4 days in. So maybe i'm expecting them tonight or tommorrow :)

thats right look for black dots on the eggs.(eyes)...hopefully not to many fry get stuck in the gravel and die..that is one reason why it is best to breed in a bare bottom tank...very cool bro keep us updated

Ass you can see, the water moss spread out like a plaque ~_~.
But it's fine, the eggs are proven fertile! Why? Because I see a wiggler!!!!
Yes the egss are currently hatching right now. The parents though seems to be ignoring them ~_~
Aren't they suppose to move the babies to a safer place? lol.

The babies were gathered by some rocks. But their hidden by them so no photo.

Now, should i be moving the parents to another tank? Or should I keep them together? Such a hard decision.

Attached Image

Here's my tank, think there's enough space that the FH's won't cull down there own babies?
I wraped my filter up with Media Filter Bags so the fry's wont get sucked up. :)
Three filters lol. Yes I love to over filter! I love how clear my water is.
Filter on the left "Penguin Bio Wheel 350" Filter on the right "Penguin Bio Wheel 200 & Filter on bottom right " Eheim 2215-37 Classic Canister Filter 12.gif

Well, back to the main topic, hopefully the babies wont swim too close to it and get sucked onto the bag.

I'm afraid there gonna cull down their fry's to a manageable size.

SHOULD I, OR SHOULD I NOT SEPERATE THE PARENTS ?

It all depends.. you have to watch the parents and see how they act with the fry.

My female started eating them as soon as they started to hatch so i removed her but left the male in there.. he did a good job moving them to a safe place and he stayed in with them for about 2 weeks before i moved him back to his tank.. He didn't eat any of them though.. i just needed to make more room for the babies to grow.. he just picked them up and spit them out if they would stray.

If this is your first time you wont know how they will do with the babies.. i would wait until they are free swimming them remove both parents. u never know they may eat them when you are sleeping.

Good luck on a successful spawn and please keep the fry updated:)

As you can see, wrapping the filter up with media bags wasn't enough lol.
The fry's didn't get sucked in but the force was so strong they couldn't swim away.
I woke up one morning with like 10 of the fry's stuck on the media bag.

So i went out to buy some sponge filters. ~_~

SOLD OUT!

Ok, they had none lol.

I saw these power head filter's lol.
Look like a sponge filter to me haha.
Took these home and viola!

Attached Image

Lol custom fitted them to my water filter.

Now my fry's don't even get stuck to them!

Attached Image

And I get my super filteration system!

Well, that aside. Here are our little fry's free swimming around. After hatching in a week.

There's about 200 of them i think. Really hard to count since they splitted into three schools.
I moved the parents as precaution although they didn't eat any of them up. But who knows. They might have.
I'll update again when they get a bit bigger. I'll try to do this weekly.
