Alright got a question for those who have planted tanks, is this a good soil for planted tanks? Also how many inches is a good amount for a planted tank?

That's good stuff but it all depends on what type of plants and your lighting.
For strong light soft wate plants you should go with ADA Aquasoil.
But for your typical plants, it's all good since the bulk of fert uptake is at the water column, not at the roots.
Either way, you should add a half in layer of peat moss on the bottom of the Eco.
2-3 inch of substrate should be good that means if you decide to create a slope affect, the lowest point should be 2-3 inch.
That is how much need for the roots to stick; anything less that that is going to make trimming and replantting very difficult since the plants won't stick well.

Good luck

Thanks Rh for the advice, i knew i always could count on u

Btw what is peat moss? lastly, i already pour 2 bags of those in a 40 breeder, can i add the peat moss on top and then add another 2 bags no top. It seems 2 bag barely gives about 2 inch coverage

thanks
Ken

You can go to homedepot or lowes garden section and get a small bag of peat moss.
What this will do is to create a richer substrate and soften your water a little.
But you don't have to which all depends on the types of plants.

Can i mix the peat moss with the substrate or does it have to be on the bottom layer? reason being, i already put 3 bags in so i dont want to dig them out again. Btw i suppose anything less than 3 inches worth of substrate wouldnt be ideal for the plants right?
