As a general rule a higher PH promotes head growth and lower PH promotes better color... Recommended PH for head growth would be around 7.6-7.8... Many members here swear by adding crushed corals to the tank to increase and stabilize the PH, Hope this helps!

The trend now is also using coral chips.

no u dont need the crushed coral.. your PH is higher then mine is and i have the coral in the filter... what do u have in your tank?

as far as trying to get the kok to pop on the TK..this is what i have experienced.

with one of mine the kok would not pop out if it was able to see another fish... So i put him in his own tank (65 gallon) with a blue background natural color gravel and coral in the caanister filter and he seems to be doing better.. i show him the mirror every now and then or put a toy flowerhorn in there for him to mess with but remove them after about 30 minutes.

with one of the other ones he didnt do so well in his own tank but as soon as i split it and threw in another flowerhorn on the other side of the divider his color came out and his kok had popped out much more... He also has natural rock, and bright background and coral chips inside the tank...

Try either or and see how it goes... Also make sure he is getting a good diet.. that is very important!

Hope i could help!

Oh do u have a pic of your TK? I would like to see what he looks like.

mines stays around 7.6. Golden 8.2 is a tad high IMO. I would add driftwood until it stablizes to the range Pantherlax suggested.

you need to figure out how to make him confident, happy and feeling like a king.
Because a fish with no confident, not happy, and feeling like a chicken will not pop his kok out.
Try out different ways to make him happy and i am sure his kok will pop back out.
