i have placed faith (9 inches including tail) in a 60 gallon tank.... rite now the tank has a pot and a piece of driftwood in it... i do not plan to add gravel for some time as the stand on which the tank is kept is old..... i will be changing the stand soon.....
i can add about 3-5 kgs of crushed coral in the tank for calcium..... and i have a dark background.... shorty's tank is a 20 gallon tank (he is 3 inches including tail) ... he has a ceramic cave (made for aquariums) and a silk plant in the tank..... i have used calender paper for the background.. i shall be getting aquarium background paper in a day or 2....... i have also covered the 2 sides of the tank with dark paper..... suggestions are welcome :) ~Nikita~ This post has been edited by nikitanain: May 7 2008, 01:05 PM |

I think 60 is a perfect size for one single flowerhorn. The bigger the better. Less worries on poluting the tank and more stable water chemistry. In my case, If I can't provide proper housing for my fish (You know, at least a comfortable size for him) I usually ended up selling it. I go by the rule of giving them a tank at least 4 times their lenght. So if a fish is 12 inches, I'll give him a 48 inches tank. It's more refreshing in the eye if you see them swim in a much bigger space and it's a pain in the eye to watch them in a cramped space. If I can't provide flowerhorns with a comfortable size tank, I'd say that I should have stayed in guppies. I love to see those little suckers swim in and around your acquscape. But here I am, hooked!!! No choice but to save and buy bigger tanks!

as long as the fish is not tortured and can turn around in peace and has atleast twice its length i think it should be ok for the fish.. however a big tank is always good :) ... as they say the bigger the better....
the 3 inch flowerhorn is in a 20 gallon tank rite now.. he will be getting a 60 g or 70 gallon tank after he grows a bit :) |

Bro. Twice the length is still not good. Imagine yourself in a jail cell, where all you can do is walk in circles, that's how it feels like for the fish.

as i said bigger is better :)..... i meant that the tank should be minimum of 2 times the length, if not any bigger.... but i dont mean that if u can give a bigger tank, then u stick to 2x length....
