I have on in one of my tanks before. After a few months, it starts turning yellow. I have to take it out before it polutes my tank.

The stalks can be completely submerged with no problem, but keep the leaves above the water line.

Mangroves are not actually all that useful for anything other than looking good. I can dig up a few references if requested, but the bottom line is they're pretty ineffectual as nutrient absorbers. In a saltwater tank, use of macroalgae like chaetomorpha will be much more effective at nutient uptake than mangroves will.

That said, they look good and are great if one is trying to set up a tank with a certain look.

They can survive in full salt water, brackish and even in freshwater... the seedlings/propajoules have to be acclimated to changes in salinity over several weeks, though, so either find ones for sale that are already used to the salinity level you plan to use or be prepared for a very slow acclimation process.
