Here is just a illustration of my one of my tank setup.
It uses one pump and then air pump with backup battery system.
So far it doesnt use much power.

Look's like anthony's set up, except without a sump. How high is the top tank?

the highest point is about 7 feet.

That's cool bro. With energy prices rising, Nice idea to economize. I guess since water is circulating on those three tanks, you will only need one heater am I right? If that's the case, that's really cooool!

Im wondering about the heater question myself since thats what sucks up most of the energy here im thinking of building something like this i already got the pump but want to do a big filter that sites on top and connect a fluval to that seyup for added filtration

I got (4) 300watts; (2) 250 watts; (2) 150 watts heaters running right now. During winter, my electric bill is always above $250. That sucks!!!!

Hey about the pump... i think that you can also improvise and use a cannister too!!! something that takes less electric... eheim and or the rena's

That's exactly what i am planning for my tanks. Except double tanks instead of triple and i want to used the below one for sump. Good idea.
