QUOTE Toshiba to announce HD-DVD pull-out Tuesday By MarketWatch Last update: 8:57 p.m. EST Feb. 18, 2008 HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Toshiba Corp. will announce its withdrawal from the high-definition DVD business as soon as Tuesday afternoon, according to Japanese media reports. The consumer electronics giant is expected to reveal plans to immediately halt manufacturing and development of HD DVD players and cease sales of all HD DVD products by the end of the month, the Nikkei business daily reported. Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida is expected to make the announcement during a press conference Tuesday afternoon. He is also expected to reveal plans to ramp up Toshiba's investments in computer chips. Toshiba and Sony Corp. have been battling for dominance in the DVD Markey with competing formats. Toshiba's decision comes after Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, said it would sell only hardware and DVDs formatted to Sony's Blu-ray technology, and the Warner Bros. division of U.S. entertainment group Time Warner Inc. said its consumer DVD releases would be in Blu-ray. Shares of Toshiba were down 1.3% in Tokyo trading early Tuesday. Source : http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/tosh...3F45EA2A7187%7D Also, XBox 360 moving to Blu Ray? QUOTE Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Add-on Expected The format war is finally over, and Blu-ray has triumphed over the HD-DVD format. But what happens to all of those HD-DVD early adopters? From the looks of Microsoft, one of the earliest adopters of HD-DVD, it's just time to move on. Rumors are already circulating about Microsoft is planning a Blu-ray add-on for its Xbox 360 console similar to the HD-DVD add-on that is already available. UPDATE: Microsoft makes a statement in regards to HD DVD. This rumor isn't new, but with recent headlines proclaiming the imminent demise of HD-DVD speculation has grown louder. As early as 2006 former Microsoft corporate Vice President Peter Moore commented that Microsoft would remain open to the idea of the Blu-ray format, saying "We don't know which will win -- HD-DVD or Blu-ray. But because we've gone with an external form of device, we can remain compatible with changes to the situation in the future." Rumors say that Microsoft could have the Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive ready as early as this May. Just like the HD-DVD add-on though, the supposed Blu-ray drive would only be used for movies, meaning no Xbox 360 games would start appearing on Blu-ray discs. Keep in mind that these are only rumors at this point, but giving Microsoft's history, it is very likely to be true. My new computer coming in.. is going to be a Dell Inspiron 530 w/ the following config..
Core2Quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz, 8MB/L2 Cache, 1066FSB) 3GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM 500GB 7200RPM HDD MSI GeForce 8800GT 512MB OC Edition (Self install) Vista Home Premium 19" HD Widescreen.. That's about all the major components.. Anyone have a setup like this? Main question for people is.. who's using Vista? And how do you like it? I'm used to XP Pro, so Vista will be a big change.. I'm not sure if I'll like it..
